Learn Fresh is a transformative nonprofit that empowers educators with innovative STEM and social-emotional learning experiences built around sports and entertainment. Learn Fresh programs focus on achieving equitable representation across the STEM pipeline for girls, students of color, and those living in low-income communities. Students who engage in Learn Fresh programs discover a new way of learning that is fun, highly engaging, and results in academic and social-emotional growth. To date, our programming has engaged over 550,000 students across the US and beyond.  Learn Fresh programs include NBA Math Hoops, MLB Players STEM League, STEM Goals, and the Fellowship for Culturally Inclusive Education.


About the Role

The Development Associate/Grant Writer will report to the Chief Development Officer and will work closely with the CEO, CDO, and Director of Communications to support organizational development efforts. This includes, but is not limited to: researching, sourcing, and developing grant applications and funding opportunities on behalf of Learn Fresh and our programs; helping to maintain donor database; supporting online giving campaigns.  This position will have both a creative and data-driven approach, leveraging their knowledge of foundations/granting organizations and the funding landscape to identify new opportunities for funding. This position will also assist with other Development related projects (i.e. Program Reports, Donor Reports, etc.).


Responsibilities

  • Research, identify, analyze and recommend applicable grant funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies (local, state and federal). 
  • Generate revenue for organization programs and services through timely submission of well-researched, well-written and well-documented grant proposals.
  • Work with the Chief Development Officer, Learn Fresh Board Members, and Learn Fresh Emerging Leaders Council to engage potential funding opportunities. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with contacts at funding organizations.
  • Responsible for preparation and timely submission of all grant reports, including mid-term, progress reports, and final reports to funders.
  • Help manage development databases (Salesforce, Classy, and Instrumentl), funder research files, grant application deadlines, and reporting schedules for tracking grant information.
  • Help support Annual Giving efforts including mid-year and end-of-year online giving campaigns. 
  • Support the planning of Development related events. 


Skills Required

  • 2-5 years of experience in non-profit development and/or grant writing with a proven track record of success. 
  • A passion for mission-driven work, a familiarity with current issues and trends in education, and an understanding of philanthropic and corporate funding landscapes in education and youth programming.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills (a clear, concise writer!), strong time management skills, and a strong sense of independence and self-motivation to complete projects in a remote setting.
  • Experience sourcing and tracking potential funding opportunities, ability to develop and maintain relationships with relevant contacts. 
  • Experience with Salesforce is highly preferred. 
  • Familiarity with Google Docs, Classy (or similar online giving platform). 
  • Ability to think creatively while following established structures.
  • A good sense of humor and team-first attitude!


Salary and Benefits

Base Salary: $50,000 - $60,000

Salary is variable based upon experience.

Health, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage is provided.
